Can Affinity Designer replace Illustrator?

Affinity Designer and Adobe Illustrator

For more than two decades, Adobe has been the industry-standard when it comes to design. Photographers use Photoshop and Lightroom, graphic designers use Photoshop and Illustrator, magazine publishers use InDesign, video editors use Premiere Pro, animators use After Effects, podcasters and musicians use Audition. The list is endless.

However, in 2013, Adobe made a choice. As part of its Creative Cloud rebranding, Adobe announced that it had no plans to develop Creative Suite products any longer. Instead, users would need to subscribe to its subscription-based service, now known as Creative Cloud, to receive updates each year with new features.

Photoshop and Lightroom together are $10 per month; most individual offerings such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Illustrator are $20 per month; the entire suite can be purchased for just over $50 per month. Students can access the entire suite for $20 per month, though.
