Congress Must Walk and Chew Gum At the Same Time

This isn’t the time to settle. We’re done settling.

After nearly six years of Republicans holding a majority in Congress, not much was done. It’s just really a simple fact.

During Barack Obama’s first two years as president, his biggest accomplishment with Democratic control was passing the Affordable Care Act. Once he lost the Senate in 2010, passing laws became much more difficult, especially under Mitch McConnell’s Senate leadership.

McConnell has held the U.S. back, especially during a pandemic as large as COVID-19 has been. Americans have received only $1,600 of stimulus payments (other countries receiving thousands more), federal minimum wage has not seen an increase since 2009 despite the wealthy classes becoming trillions of dollars richer, 400,000 people have already died due to the virus. Chances are, you probably know someone who has had it, or worse, died because of it.

Now that Democrats have a 50/50 majority and Vice President Kamala Harris holds the deciding vote, it’s not time to settle. We’ve already done that.
