Dear Apple, Keep Your HDMI Port

I didn’t miss it when you took it and I don’t miss it now.

When it happened, we hated them.

Apple is best known for killing off ports — the headphone jack, USB-A, HDMI. The headphone jack-less iPhone 7 came out just five months after I had first switched to iPhone. In fact, when upgrading, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 and returned it after dreading Android’s less-than-impressive user experience.

After switching back to my iPhone, I ended up buying AirPods. The only time I’ll ever use wired headphones again is when audio or video editing, and I use my laptop for that anyway.

The first Apple computer I owned was a 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro. It had two USB-C input/output and one headphone jack. That’s it. Surely the chassis could use a redesign, especially now. But I really do not mind it.

My current iteration/setup calls for a 2020 13-inch M1 MacBook Air. It’s my favorite device I’ve owned. The portability, the performance, everything. I only ever use my 2020 M1 Mac Mini for recording my podcast.

Then Apple gave everything back.

I hate it.

For the most part, a lack of ports never really mattered. All that actually bugged me was the missing SD card slot since that caused…
