Twitter Announces ‘Ticketed Spaces’
Twitter will take a 20-percent cut, after Apple and Google.
Twitter is getting ready to unleash “Ticketed Spaces.” As reported by The Verge, U.S. users will be able to apply to host paid live audio rooms starting in the next couple of weeks. Anyone who wants to charge needs at least 1,000 followers, have hosted three spaces in the last 30 days, and be at least 18 years old.
The social network will be partnering with Stripe to handle payments. Users will receive 80 percent of revenue after Apple and Google’s in-app purchase fees are taken. In other words, if you sell a ticket for $10, Apple would presumably take 30%, leaving you and Twitter to split the remaining $7.
The company says they’ll cover Stripe’s transaction fee.
Twitter recently allowed users with more than 600 followers to host Audio Spaces and expanded the ability to schedule an event. The company is working on launching Super Follows, allowing users to pay for premium content from users; a bigger subscription product is in the works called Twitter Blue and would unlock additional features such as the ability to undo tweets.
Until recently, Twitter’s product has remained pretty stale, offering the same features. In the last year, the company has released announcements in near rapid-fire succession in efforts to diversify its revenue and build a well-rounded site where users can consume all sorts of media from text to video to audio.
